South Africa & Swaziland

As the World Cup 2010 soccer tournament approaches, South Africa becomes the focus of attention as multitudes from every nation will be arriving for the games. This presents a unique opportunity for us to reach people from all over the world. Although venues were not available for us during the World Cup competition, we will be arriving shortly after the tournament to spread our nets and be the fishers of men that God has called us to be.

Please pray for the souls of these millions of people, and also pray with us for the resources to reach them. It is costly to travel and hold crusades and we need your support to bring us to South Africa and to secure the resources needed. Please, as you pray, would you also consider a donation to help us in this great opportunity?

Cape Town in southwestern South Africa, is the legislative capital of the country and the capital of Western Cape province. The site of the first European settlement in South Africa (founded in 1652), Cape Town is today a major port, an industrial hub, and a center of culture and tourism. Most of the city’s inhabitants are Protestants; however, the Cape Malays form a distinctive Muslim minority within the coloured population, and has grown among coloured people in recent years.

Africa Harvest Mission will be here July 28th – August 1st, 2010.

Port Elizabeth, South Africa

Port Elizabeth in southeastern South Africa, in the province of Eastern Cape is an important seaport and manufacturing center and a popular resort noted for its fine beaches. Laid out in 1820 by the British military leader Sir Rufane Shaw Donkin it was named after his late wife, Lady Elizabeth. The town grew rapidly after it was connected by railroad to Kimberley in 1873. Major manufactures include motor vehicles, metal and wood products, footwear, processed food, and chemicals.

East London, South Africa

East London, also Oos-Londen is in the southeastern South Africa, in the province of Eastern Cape, a seaport on the Indian Ocean. East London is the marketing and distributing center for the eastern part of the province and is a major wood-shipping port. East London is a popular resort city, with a pleasant temperature, and fine beaches. The high proportion of committed Christians in all racial groups is an asset, but humanist and socialist values pose challenge for the Church in South Africa.

Bloemfontein literally means fountain of flowers or flower spring in Dutch, and the city is know for its flowers. It is the sixth largest city in South Africa. Until 1994, the city was the sole judicial capital of South Africa. It is also an administrative centre with many private hospitals and educational institutions.

Founded in 1886 as a mining town, Johannesburg city in northeastern South Africa, is capital of Gauteng Province. The gold rich-mining region serves as South Africa’s industrial heartland. The large black townships of Soweto and Alexandra lie within Johannesburg’s metropolitan area. The high proportion of committed Christians in all racial groups is an asset, but humanist and socialist values pose challenge for the Church in South Africa.

We will hold gospel campaigns in Johannesburg August 25th – 29th, 2010.

Pretoria, South Africa

Pretoria in northeastern South Africa, located in Gauteng Province is the administrative capital of South Africa. Pretoria is one of three national capitals along with Cape Town (the legislative capital) and Bloemfontein (the judicial capital). Most of Pretoria’s labor force works in administration and services related to the government. The city also has a major iron and steel industry as well as engineering, food processing, ceramics, and chemical industries. The settlement of Pretoria was established by Afrikaner leader Marthinius Pretorius in 1855 and named in honor of his father, Andries Pretorius, an Afrikaner military hero and statesman. Population 692,348 (1996) for the city proper and 1.6 million for the urban area.

Durban, South Africa

Durban was founded in 1835 and named after the governor of the British Cape Colony, Sir Benjamin D’Urban. Durban is found in eastern South Africa, in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, on the coast of the Indian Ocean. Durban is one of South Africa’s leading seaports and is a major importer of raw materials and manufactured products. Umlazi, the biggest black township in the Durban area, has well over 355,000 inhabitants. Durban also has one of the largest Asian populations of any city in South Africa.
